Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I have a Schlage Dexter handle?
If there is a small pinhole on the escutcheon plate, your handle is a Schlage Dexter or Gatehouse. If the pinhole is on the shaft itself, you need to order an extender for Schlage entry handles. If there is no pinhole in either location, a 1/4″ wood extension may be an option.
How do I remove my Schlage Dexter handle?
Insert a small tool or pin into the pinhole on the shaft to release the handle.
How do I know if my handle is active, inactive, or 3-point locking?
An active handle operates the door. An inactive handle is decorative and does not turn. A 3-point locking handle has visible locking points at the top, middle, and bottom of the door edge.
What is the difference between a passage and keyed-entry handle?
A keyed-entry handle has a thumb-turn or key lock. A passage handle operates the latch but does not have a lock.
What size is available?
The available door handle extender for Schlage Dexter handles is 2″.
What finishes are available?
Available finishes include antique brass, black, brushed nickel, oil-rubbed bronze, shiny brass, shiny chrome, and white.
How do I install an extender for a Schlage Dexter handle?
Follow the door handle extender installation instructions for Schlage Dexter handles. A copy will be provided with your order.
