About door handle extenders

What does a door handle extender do?

A door handle extender moves your existing door handle farther away from the door. This can provide additional clearance when blinds, shades, curtains, or other hardware make it difficult to reach or operate the handle.

Will the extender replace my existing door handle?

No. The extender is designed to work with your existing door handle. It adds length between the handle and the door while allowing you to keep the hardware you already have.

How are your door handle extenders made?

Our door handle extenders are custom designed and milled from solid brass in Wichita, Kansas.

Do you make extenders for different brands of door hardware?

Yes. We offer door handle extenders for a variety of popular brands, including Andersen, Baldwin, Crestline, Emtek, Hoppe, Kwikset, Marvin, Peachtree, Pella, Rocky Mountain, Schlage, Weather Shield, and WeatherBarr. Because each manufacturer’s hardware is different, it’s important to choose the product page that matches your particular handle.

Choosing the right extender

How do I know what brand of door handle I have?

Start by looking for a brand name or logo on the escutcheon plate behind the handle. You may also find identifying information on the metal hardware along the edge of the door. We offer other resources on our website to help you distinguish between Andersen, Hoppe, Pella, and other popular door handle brands.

How do I know which extender size I need?

The correct size depends on your door, handle, and the amount of clearance you need. Each product page lists the sizes available for that particular type of hardware. See our guide to measuring for the right extender size for step-by-step instructions. If you’re still unsure which size to order, contact us before placing your order and we’ll help you determine what you need.

Do all door handles work with an extender?

No. Extenders are designed for specific types and models of door hardware. Some handles have features that make them incompatible, while others require a particular type of extender. We do our best to help you determine if your door handle can be extended. Check the information on your product page before ordering.

Can I use an extender with a keyed or locking handle?

It depends on the handle. Some keyed-entry and locking handles can be extended, while others cannot. The product page for your specific hardware will explain any limitations.

Ordering

What comes with a door handle extender kit?

Kits vary slightly depending on the door hardware, but most include the extender piece, a longer spindle, washers, and adhesive needed for installation. The exact contents of your kit will be provided with your product.

Can I choose a finish?

Yes. Many of our extenders are available in multiple finishes so you can match or complement your existing door hardware. Available finishes vary by product, so check the product page for the options available for your handle.

Can I order a custom size?

Most door handle extenders are available in 1-1/2″, 2″, and 2-3/4″ lengths, with some hardware offering additional sizes or configurations. If the size you need isn’t listed for your particular handle, contact us before ordering. We’ll let you know whether a custom solution is available.

How do I place an order?

Choose your door handle brand from our product listings and follow the options on that product page. Some products require you to identify details such as handle type, size, finish, or locking configuration before adding the extender to your cart. If you’re unsure about any of the selections, contact us before placing your order.

Yes. Step-by-step installation instructions are provided with your order. We also provide downloadable installation instructions for the different types of door hardware.

Do I need special tools to install a door handle extender?
