What is my handle type?

Your handle type refers to whether you have an active handle, an inactive (or dummy) handle, or a handle from a door with 3-point locking.

  • Active door handles are functional, turning handles that are used to open and close doors.
  • Inactive or dummy handles are non-functional, cannot turn, and are decorative only.
  • 3-point locking means that the door locks at three separate points: the top, middle, and bottom of the door. You will be able to see three locking mechanisms on the edge of your door. 3-point locking differs from single-locking, in which case the door only locks at the handle.
